For our first Amy Reviews Review, we are reviewing Maid for Each Other by Lynn Painter!

TLDR;

Abi Mariano is a maid who works to clean Declan Powell’s apartment. To get his parents off his back for not dating, and to possibly get taken even more seriously at his billion dollar workplace, he offers a deal to Abi to be his girlfriend for 40k. This works perfectly because.. Declan already had said he has a girlfriend named Abby. And her name is Abi. Works perfectly right?

Well… yes, actually. Abi is the best girlfriend, everyone loves her and through tons of buisness meetings, conventions and a little trip to nyc, they start to fall in love. This book was a great sweet read. If you have ever seen Maid in Manhattan, it is just like that except Abi doesn’t have kids and there is no politics.

I give it 4/5 Scrub daddies plus one bouquet of Inhalers and Epi Pens.

FULL REVIEW. SPOILERS BELOW!

What a lovely read! I had just finished this read and instantly got that cozy feel. You know, when you finish one book and think, I want to read another one. Instead of “this book put me in a book slump” type deal? This is exactly what I was feeling. It was really giving Maid in Manhattan and Best Friends Wedding. It gave cozy, and a bit spicy. Though it was about one Jalapeno on the Spicy scale for me.

If you haven’t watched Maid in Manhattan or My Best Friends Wedding, the premise is the same. In Maid in Manhattan, a maid falls in love with a promising politician. But, she lives in New York in the Bronx. So she pretends to be rich, so she can fall in love with him, and discover he is not that bad as the media makes him out to be. The same premise happens in My Best Friends wedding. The best friend is invited to be a bridesmaid to a women to is marrying her best friend. He is convinced that she is the nicest and kind woman, and that even though her father is wealthy, her family is not terrible at all.

That is where this book leads us, on a mish mash lovely tale of “he’s not that bad after all” and “I’m pretending to date you, but I actually love you?” genre

The book opens up on the ever interesting Benny’s grocery, where Abi Mariano works. She is working two jobs because she wants to pay off her student loans (Aren’t we all). Her other job leads to the introduction of the plot. While Abi is cleaning one of her clients apartments(Declan Powell), she finds out that AGAST! her apartment is infested and needs to be exterminated. Abi thinks it would be a good idea to stay just one night at Powell’s apartment. When SHOCKER his parents show up and are lovely to meet his girl friend “Abby”.

Apparently, Declan Powell said his girlfriend was Abby and it turns out, the cleaning lady is Abi. In an effort to smooth things over, Declan catches Abi at the grocery store she works at and offers her a deal. Pretend to be his girlfriend for investor weekend, and then he will give her whatever she wants. Abi being the sarcastic, funny and smart girl she is she requests a big ‘ol whopping 40k. Enough for her student loans. Declan agrees and off they go on their secret girl friend journey.

My favorite scenes from these books have to be when Abi runs a 5k even though she has asthma, and Declan’s kindness towards her during an asthma attack. I also love how at the end, Declan had the idea to buy tons of inhalers and epi pens for her. (Those things are expensive)
